If you’re avoiding that “salesy” vibe, I have a reality check for you: as a business owner, you’ve got to embrace a little bit of that energy (unless you’re secretly rich, in which case, teach me your ways!).
When celebrants tell me they don’t want to sound salesy, what they really mean is: “I want to share what I offer without feeling pushy or manipulative.” And I get it—there’s a HUGE difference between coming across like a used car salesman and being a genuine human who knows they have something amazing to offer.
If you treat your sales copy like a desperate shout into the abyss, hoping someone will hear you, it’s bound to feel off-putting. But when you’re crystal clear about the value you bring to the table, selling becomes less about pushing and more about helping people get what they truly need.
Your potential clients don’t care about the logistics—like whether you have a fancy signing table or if you throw in a rehearsal for free. What they’re really after is a memorable ceremony that reflects their love story.
Ask yourself: Why would someone choose YOU as their celebrant? What transformation do you help them achieve? How does working with you make their lives better?
Jot down your thoughts, then boil it down to 1-2 sentences that clearly communicate the value you provide. Be specific and authentic—no fluff!
Before: “As a wedding celebrant, I create personalised ceremonies that reflect your love story and include all necessary paperwork for your special day.”
– This sounds nice, but it’s all about the features.
Try: “When you work with me, you’ll have a heartfelt ceremony that captures your unique love story, leaving you free to enjoy your special day without stressing over the details.”
– Now we’re talking about the experience and transformation, not just the logistics!
Stop stressing about sounding salesy. Remember, you’re running a business, and that means you have to own your role as a seller.
Instead of worrying about sounding pushy, focus on making it crystal clear how your services provide value and transform your clients’ experiences. When you talk about how your unique approach helps people, it won’t feel like selling—it’ll feel like solving a problem.
You’re not bad at sales copy; you just need a solid framework and feedback from someone who’s been there.
