Last year myself and some of my wedding industry friends @ropeandpulley + @thenakedfloristau teamed up to do a free giveaway contest for an all-inclusive dream micro-wedding with The Wedding Social Co ….. back when they were having a moment due to all the restrictions. It was our way of sprinkling kindness around to help relieve the stench of the Covid shit-uation!
We were inundated with entries and read through each and every one of the moving stories- so many accounts of trials and tribulations and the ultimate joy at finding true love. The common theme was that everyone wanted to be married in a simple and beautiful way….if only we could have married them all.
Renee and Brodie were our beautiful and deserving winners. We pulled together to organise their wedding in record time. One of the benefits of a micro wedding is that it doesn’t take months of planning, especially when you’ve got your florist, photographer and celebrant already locked in.
With bad weather forecast, we decided to move the ceremony indoors to @theweddingsocialco‘s light-filled space. Nobody wanted to see Nanna slip down the rocks at the State Forrest. So, it wasn’t initially how any of us had pictured it, but it didn’t matter. Renee + Brodie were adept at riding the corona-coaster and they didn’t let the venue change bother them. Thankfully the rain lifted in the arvo and they were able to head into Glenrock for some epic post-ceremony pics.
Brodie proposed to Renee at the end of 2020. Renee is not a big fan of Christmas- some would call her the Christmas grinch and Brodie was determined to turn it all around and make this time of year special for Renee. Brodie knew that Renee would hate a public proposal so she kept it sweet and simple by saying lots of lovely words to her in their lounge room. Renee went into shock and said ‘I’m going to vomit’ – which wasn’t the romantic reaction Brodie was hoping for. Once she’d got over the initial shock, Renee finally said ‘yes’.
A few months later, Renee decided that she would like to PROPOSE BACK to Brodie so that Brodie didn’t miss out on the proposal experience and so she could give her a ring too. They went for a walk down to the lake near their house. It was a hot day but Renee needed to hide the ring box so she pretended she was cold and wore a big jumper, even though she was sweating the entire time. It’s fair to say that when Renee proposed, Brodie wasn’t expecting it because they were already engaged. What she actually said was ‘what the fuck?!’
How cool that they BOTH PROPOSED TO EACH OTHER?!
Now that’s a trend I wish would take off in ALL RELATIONSHIPS.
How’s this for some expert-level wrangling?!
Brodie + Renae wanted to enter one AFTER each other to the same song: Conversations in the Dark by John Legend.
Logistically it was a bit tricky because there was nowhere to hide on Maitland main road and no way to simply line them up outside the venue because of course……. they didn’t want to see each other before the ceremony.
So I had the idea to maneuver them BACK-TO-BACK. I’m very proud of that brainwave ⚡
It created the most magical moment ✨ where they were able to touch hands, connect and calm each other’s nerves……… all without breaking the surprise.
“Julie is an amazing celebrant, whilst showing us many other qualities including being supportive, kind & a key communicator! Julie allowed us to feel comfortable, make decisions & follow our lead on a personalised ceremony. Renee & I count our lucky stars for having Julie as our celebrant as she goes above & beyond whilst still managing to make us laugh and keep us calm throughout the entire process.”
