BACKPACKER LOVE STORY ?
As I say on my website, whether you met at the King St Maccas or backpacked overseas, then your story deserves to be told.
Liz & Andy’s Wallalong House wedding started with a love story falls into the latter category. Like all couples who meet overseas, their story involves fun and passion, followed by compromise, patience, and loyalty.
On a whim, in search of adventure, Liz moved to London where she met English Andy.
The pair started seeing each other and had great fun together. They affectionately referred to themselves as ‘buck fuddies’ or something similar that I didn’t want to say in front of Liz’ grandma, but the guests knew what I meant!
They knew Liz was leaving to go back to Oz in a few months so figured nothing serious could come of it.
When the time came, they were in too deep, so they decided to give long distance a go. They survived a full year until Andy moved to Oz to be with Liz in Feb 2016.
It was the first time they’d lived together. That was when Liz discovered Andy’s video game obsession with Crash Badicoot and Andy uncovered Liz’ obsession with blankets and good linen.
Andy surprised Liz with a proposal in Townsville when they were visiting Liz’ grandma. When he got down on one knee, she cried happy ugly tears. She tried to subtlety tell her grandma she was engaged by shoving her blinged-up hand in her face and asking her opinion about nail polish colours. It took a while for Grandma to get it! but when she did…….there were more happy ugly tears!
UNANTICIPATED MOMENTS ?
I’ve found that the biggest laughs in the ceremony often come from improvised moments.
There is the ceremony that I’ve written……and then there are all the things that happen in between on the day!
Often the best bits are the………
Swipe right to see……..the moment the groomsman James pulled out the ring from his pocket, in amongst a load of bottle caps and we all lost our shit! Just one of many laugh-out-loud moments that made Elizabeth & Andrew’s ceremony super memorable.
BUTTERSCOTCH SCHNAPPS FOR THE WIN.
Ceremony shots are so fun. There is a time and a place….and your wedding celebration is definitely the time and the place to do one! It feels slightly reckless, connects everyone together, and gets the party started!
That’s me on the far left joining in 😉
Not all venues will allow it because of their licensing laws but at Wallalong House, not only do they allow it but the wonderful staff will serve the shots up on trays to all the guests while we sign the paperwork.
The butterscotch schnapps was delicious but I regretted it slightly afterward because then I remembered that the groom Andy is a whiskey-lover like myself. He had a huge range of top-shelf whiskeys available for the guests and I’d already reached my quota for the drive home.
If any up-and-coming celebrants ever want to be my roadie, so I can have a few bevvies post-ceremony, please hit me up!
